The South Jersey Transportation Authority was established in 1991 and charged with coordinating the transportation system in New Jersey's six southernmost counties. Central to its mission is promoting economic development through acquisition, construction, maintenance, operation and support of transportation projects. As successor to the New Jersey Expressway Authority and the Atlantic County Transportation Authority, the SJTA owns and operates the Atlantic City Expressway, Atlantic City International Airport, regional transit operations and parking facilities.
